Identity is one of the central concepts of IoPT
IoPT researches the development of a person’s identity. It is assumed that identity begins at the time of conception, i.e. before birth.
The concept of identity is specifically defined as:
„the sum of all a person’s own life experiences from the beginning of their existence and how they react to them as a subject.“ F.Ruppert. more…….
Identity develops in the context of our attachment relationships. Promoted, supported or impaired, even threatened by the people with whom we are in contact from the very beginning, with whom we have to bond. If the mother / parents / reference persons themselves are traumatized, they are not present, we end up in a great loneliness from the very beginning, in an inner struggle, an inner self-fight.
The child of a traumatised mother has to connect and identify with the trauma and the trauma feelings of the mother and her survival strategies because there is nothing else. This is biologically designed and happens completely unconsciously, automatically. (Transgenerational trauma) In our symbiotic need, we cannot choose anything at this stage, we bind ourselves to what is available to us, whether healthy or life-threatening.
